We created braidbetter using repurposed banana fibers and biopolymers, making it a USDA Certified Biobased Product (97% plant-based). An independent biodegradability screener test (ASTM D5338) shows that our fibers achieved over 50% breakdown within 69 days under composting conditions—a sharp contrast to plastic extensions that linger for centuries. By designing for the carbon cycle, braidbetter advances three UN Sustainable Development Goals: good health and well-being, responsible consumption and production, and climate action.
Microbiome & Eczema Friendly.
Studies suggest that beauty and personal care products primarily used by Black women may contain higher levels of endocrine-disrupting chemicals. That’s why braidbetter has been clinically tested to confirm it is safe for skin and scalp, including those prone to eczema. In addition, our extensions are certified under the MyMicrobiome Standard, demonstrating that they support a healthy scalp microbiome by maintaining balance between beneficial and harmful bacteria. Unlike synthetic plastic hair, which may introduce endocrine-disrupting compounds and carcinogens, braidbetter® is proven to be both skin-safe and microbiome-friendly.
